Our Story

We’re always trying to figure out what to do with our ideas—how much to feed them, when they need space to play, and how we can help them grow. We’ve drawn so much inspiration from What Do You Do with an Idea? by Kobi Yamada, and it’s an honor to share that with the world.

Stages Theatre Company commissioned us to adapt What Do You Do with an Idea? for production in 2022. At a developmental workshop of the show, teens reunited in a theatre for the first time since before the pandemic, and their excitement was contagious. We got to see firsthand how theatre can bring us together and give us the chance to build on each other’s ideas. Then, we were able to talk about how to live inspired and how to treat each other’s ideas with Kobi Yamada following performances of the show.

We’ve been writing together since we first met teaching and music directing young theatre artists at a performing arts program in the Colorado mountains. Collaborating on What Do You Do with an Idea? was unique for us, because while we were only able to work with each other virtually during 2020, Sharon had a hiatus from playing piano on Broadway, and we were able to devote all of our time to bringing this story to life on stage.

Once again with Stages Theatre Company and in collaboration with Escalate Dance & Theatre Studio, we’ve adapted Kobi Yamada’s book Maybe for production in 2023.
